Cricket 'faces £4m losses' if England vs SA Test is cancelled after Queen's death

English cricket could reportedly lose around £4m if the third Test between England and South Africa at the Oval is cancelled following the death of the Queen.

The Queen passed away on Thursday evening aged 96 and the ECB announced almost immediately that day two of the Test would not take place, but no decision had been made about the remaining days.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, the ECB and Surrey are not insured for a cancellation caused by the death of a monarch and they could lose around £4m if the decision is made to cancel the Test match.

The report states that around £1.3m is generated by ticket sales during a Test at the Oval, plus £1m in hospitality and around £500,000 each day in alcohol and food sales. The ECB could also apply for the Test to be extended by a day.

New ECB chair Richard Thompson paid tribute to The Queen for her "selflessness over her extraordinary reign" and her support of cricket.

He said: "I'm sure I speak for everyone in the game when I say how truly sad I am to hear of the Queen's passing.

"Her Majesty has been such a great supporter of the game and was always so vocal of her and her late husband's enjoyment around the sport.

"Her dedication to her country will never be forgotten. For her service and her selflessness over her extraordinary reign, we owe her a debt that can never be repaid."

Meanwhile, the FA has announced that all football fixtures this weekend have been postponed as a mark of respect for The Queen, including in the Premier League, English Football League and Women's Super League.
