The Crichton Trust is in the early stages of preparing a Sunflower Field as a mark of respect for Ukraine.
The local community is encouraged to plant sunflower seeds at home and look out for planting dates in the coming weeks.
A supply of sunflower seeds is available to pick up in the cafe at Crichton Central for anyone who wants to get involved.
Gwilym Gibbons, chief executive of the trust, said: “We know that many people have been very generous in their support of Ukraine so far.
“However, inviting the community to get involved in this project can visibly show the strengths of support for Ukraine in Dumfries and Galloway.”
The team behind the growing social enterprise received a positive response to the new move that will help to create a welcoming place for refugees.
Gwilym said: “Based on the response to our social media post, there is a lot of interest.”
He added: “The devastating war in Ukraine is close to all our hearts. The Crichton has long been a place of refuge and reflection, so the Sunflower Field will both remind us of the impact of war and celebrate the proud and beautiful nation that we all stand in solidarity with and wish for peace.”
