Crew members were forced to restrain a passenger on a flight to JFK after he kept banging on the cockpit door.
The unruly passenger, who has not been named, was flying from Warsaw, Poland on a LOT Polish Airlines Flight to JFK, New York when he stood-up and tried to force his way into the cockpit.
According to eyewitnesses, the man started shouting and became aggressive when he was refused entry into the cockpit.
Quick-thinking passengers and staff quickly pinned the man down to the ground where he was restrained until the flight landed, a witness told NBC New York.
One crew member was hit in the face during the scuffle as eyewitnesses were bemused at the man's behaviour - after claiming he hadn't been drinking alcohol.
The condition of the crew member is unknown, according to police.
The flight managed to land successfully "without incident" at JFK airport at 8.30pm, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, after staff members and passengers successfully restrained the man.
Port Authority cops were called to the plane at Gate 9 in Terminal 7, and the suspect was taken into custody following the mid-air ordeal.
The suspect was then taken to hospital to be evaluated, according to authorities, who were concerned with his erratic behaviour.
It is unclear whether the man will face any charges as the FBI investigates the incident.
The disruptive passenger mid-air comes just days after an American Airlines flight attendant was taken to hospital following an altercation with an angry passenger during a flight to San Fransisco from Chicago on November 13.
As the plane was about to start its descent, a woman stood up holding a child and refused to sit down despite multiple requests from crew members.
Fellow passengers caught the disruption on their phones, with the incident going viral on Twitter, as a second crew member was seen rushing down the aisle trying to break up the dispute.
The angry woman was seen pushing the flight attendant, and heard shouting "I will kill you", according to an eyewitness.
Police met the woman once the United Flight 476 landed, and she was arrested by Chicago police department.
The FBI confirmed an investigation is underway.
