An air ambulance attended a medical emergency on board a ferry heading to Merseyside overnight.
A crew member aboard the Stena Line vessel Edda en route from Belfast to Birkenhead suffered a medical emergency. First aid assistance was provided by fellow crew members, but a doctor advised that the patient should be transported to Aintree Hospital.
The patient was airlifted to the hospital. Their condition is not known at this time.

A Stena Line spokesperson told the ECHO : “Overnight we had a medical emergency with a crew member onboard our vessel Stena Edda, on route from Belfast to Birkenhead. Our trained crew immediately provided first aid assistance and sought medical advice from a doctor onshore, who advised that they be evacuated by helicopter to Aintree Hospital. Our thoughts and best wishes are with them at this time.”
