
Creighton made history by defeating the number one team in college basketball for the first time in school history. The defending national champions, UConn, entered the game with a 14-game winning streak and the unanimous number one ranking in the AP poll. However, the 15th ranked Creighton Blue Jays were not intimidated and put on a remarkable performance.
Steven Ashworth was a standout player for Creighton, scoring 16 of his 20 points in the first half. The Blue Jays went into halftime with 43 points, a significant improvement from their previous meeting with UConn where they only scored 48 points in total.
