The must-have food of 2023 are Marmite roast potatoes, The Daily Star reports. Masterchef judge Poppy O'Toole developed the concept of adding Marmite when boiling your spuds before dripping it over the top and putting it in the oven.
Chef Simon Shaw concurred, saying: “A little tip for roast potatoes is to put a bit of Marmite in the water when you’re parboiling the potatoes. It gives them a really nice colour and will present you with deep-golden roasties every time.”
Poppy has gained notoriety by posting simple recipe tutorials on TikTok, gaining millions of followers in the process. She is also a renowned expert on cooking the perfect Sunday roast.
Poppy says adding just two tablespoons of Marmite to roast potatoes rather than salt can give them an extra savoury punch. “Loads of you have been cooking my Marmite roast potatoes and loving them,” she says. “I can safely say I’ve made it my life’s work to nail the perfect roast potato and I’m proud to say I’ve cracked it.”
The peculiar recipe has received rave reviews from her social media followers. One fan posted: “I am salivating on my way to the store for Marmite and potatoes...Thank you!!!”
