Cream cheese recall issued amid fears it could cause ‘serious adverse health consequences or death’

  • More than a dozen flavours of cream cheese have been recalled by Made Fresh Salads due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
  • The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Class I recall, its most serious alert, indicating a "reasonable probability" of "serious adverse health consequences or death."
  • Listeria infection poses significant risks, particularly to young children, elderly individuals, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women, who face dangers such as miscarriages and stillbirths.
  • The recall was initiated after routine sampling identified Listeria monocytogenes contamination on a part of a mixer used in the cream cheese production.
  • The affected products, with an expiration date up to 27 February, were distributed to retail stores and distributors in New York City, and consumers are advised to return them for a full refund.
