PATNA: The live music and stand-up comedy culture is gradually catching up at restaurants and cafés in Patna. Several restaurants organise live music by local artists on the weekends. Some cafés have also started organising special stand-up comedy shows by inviting comedians from metropolitan cities.
Some contemporary cafés in localities like Boring Road and Patliputra have quirky interior designing and set up, which makes them a hub for performers. Live music and stand-up comedy shows have become common in the modern cafés in the city. People at large spend time in cafés after finishing their work in the evening for refreshment, amusement and tidbit.
A café on Boring Road organises stand-up comedy shows at regular intervals. Local performers are given direct entries, while professionals mark their presence if tickets are sold. “Collaboration with the artist generates a unique image in society and the venue earns fame, which in turns leads to higher footfall of visitors,” said Veer Vikram, owner of the café.
Another café-cum-restaurant near S K Puri Park organises live music shows every weekend. “We prefer local artists and pay them a certain amount of money,” said Prabhakar Singh, owner of the restaurant.
Another café at Patliputra Colony has an open-air setup and they follow the café culture, mostly preferred in Gulf countries, wherein people sit on bean bags and enjoy the cuppa and delicacies. "We organise music and poetry shows on various occasions like Holi, Christmas and International Women’s Day,” said Ali Waris Khan, owner of the café.
