A 69-year-old man has died after being trapped inside a mobile crane that rolled into a culvert on the southern Gold Coast.
At about 8:30am emergency services were called to the Aqua Promenade address where the man had been working.
"The patient was trapped in that vehicle and unfortunately was unable to be revived and was declared deceased at the scene," Officer in Charge Coolangatta Ambulance Station Justin Payne said.
"The patient sustained a wide range of traumatic injuries and unfortunately we couldn't revive him here at the scene.
"We're aware that it was unintended for that vehicle to move."
Mr Payne said specialist equipment was brought in to reach the crane.
"It was quite a difficult operation to get that vehicle back to a position where we could retrieve the patient," he said.
"These vehicles are quite heavy, so it was a delicate operation."
Mr Payne said family and friends who witnessed the incident called for help.
"This is a really difficult scene to be confronted with," he said.
"This is the area the patient resides so there were family and friends and bystanders on scene who were extremely distressed.
"For the first responders who were attending this scene, this isn't the sort of thing they deal with every day and some of these people who have assisted have known this patient."
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is investigating the incident.
