Acclaimed director Craig Roberts is set to take the helm of the upcoming horror comedy film 'The Scurry,' featuring a stellar cast including Rhys Ifans, Olivia Cooke, Paapa Essiedu, Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Antonia Thomas. The production, with a budget exceeding £10 million, will be shot at Dragon Studios in South Wales, making it one of the first projects to benefit from the U.K.'s newly introduced Independent Film Tax Credit.
The screenplay for 'The Scurry' has been penned by Tim Telling, known for his work on 'The Mash Report.' The film is being produced by Water & Power Productions, Cliff Edge Pictures, and Circus Studios, with True Brit Entertainment onboard as a co-producer and U.K. distributor. Principal photography is scheduled to commence on April 2.
The storyline of 'The Scurry' revolves around a deadly rodent onslaught. As per the official synopsis, the plot follows two pest controllers summoned to an eco-café in a country park to address what initially appears to be a routine vermin issue. However, as night falls, a horde of crazed squirrels descends upon the location, unleashing chaos and vengeance on the café's occupants. With casualties mounting, the survivors seek refuge inside the café, only to face further challenges as a sudden storm disrupts power and communication, leaving them isolated and under siege. The eclectic group of survivors includes pest controllers, a moody teenager, self-righteous vegans, and a drug dealer, all facing slim odds of survival.
Notable figures involved in the production include James Swarbrick and Adrian Bate as producers, with Tom Miller, Sam Myer, Zygi Kamasa, James Spring, James Scott, Joe Simpson, and Simon Williams serving as executive producers.
