Craig Revel Horwood has cancelled his summer holiday to take on some of his friend Paul O’Grady ’s tour dates in the musical Annie.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge, 58, was sharing the role of Miss Hannigan with Paul before the star died of sudden cardiac arrhythmia in March aged 67.
Craig, who mourned on Twitter the loss of “a wonderful human being”, has since postponed his break in the Mediterranean with his fiancé Jonathan Myring, 36.
He said: “We had planned to go on a one-week holiday on a private yacht but I relinquished that.”
Craig also admitted the Miss Hannigan role now comes with additional expectation following the Birkenhead-born For the Love of Dogs presenter’s death.
He said: “There is pressure to do a fabulous job like he did. We dedicated every show in Liverpool to Paul – all of which ended in rapturous applause.
“It was very special to perform there. I was very honoured.”
The Strictly star also called for fellow TV personalities to back off Phillip Schofield after he admitted to lying to his management and ITV about his affair with a younger male colleague.
Craig told Best magazine: “He is entitled to a private life. Leave him alone now.”
