Former Hearts boss Craig Levein has revealed the club’s late former chief executive Chris Robinson was battered by a group of angry fans.
Robinson, who died last month, was attacked by four people outside Tynecastle in the early 2000s when Hearts were struggling with £20million of debt. Levein, who was manager at the time, said his boss’s relationship with the fans deteriorated and a 2004 proposal to leave Tynecastle, the club’s home since 1886, was met with fierce opposition.
The attack happened when Robinson ignored advice to stay inside. Levein told BBC Scotland’s Sacked in the Morning podcast: “Chris had gone out and there had been an altercation with some supporters outside.
“I’d gone in the next morning, went into his office as I usually did, and he’s got bruises on his face.
“I said, ‘Jesus, what the hell happened?’ He said, ‘Oh, it’s my own fault’.
Robinson went on: “I’d gone outside and there were four of them and they’ve jumped me.
“If there were only three of them I think I could have taken them.”
Levein added: “He was deadly serious – I thought, ‘Good on you’.”
