Crafty booze teens try to evade police en route to Ayrshire beaches

Groups of youths heading to Troon beach are trying to dodge booze cops by getting off at an earlier station.

But police say they are one step ahead of teens after a day of no arrests on South Ayrshire's shores.

Revellers heading by train via Glasgow and surrounding areas are arriving two or three stops before they hit the seaside destination.

Ayrshire Live understands youngsters are doing everything they can to avoid police searches.

Instead they are piling into taxis at Barassie or stations further along.

But despite their best efforts to 'chance it' police insist they are winning the war to keep beaches dry and say officers are present at every station.

It comes as 3,000 visitors hit Troon with a further 3,000 visiting Ayr beach.

Ayrshire Live were at Troon beach yesterday as the mercury hit a peak of 27 degrees.

Officers said they were finding groups had travelled from as far as Motherwell to soak up the rays with their pals.

A minor scuffle broke out before cops on quads sped in to separate a small group.

The officers were patrolling the beach in impressive quad bikes which allow them to dart along to different points on the shore.

Booze was then taken from the group and poured onto the sand.

It comes as Ayrshire Police Division revealed a stash of booze captured from beaches by yesterday afternoon.

A picture shared on the force's Facebook page shows bottles of beer, almost full Buckfast and cans of Dragon Soop amongst the alcohol seized by 3pm.

A spokesperson said: "A robust approach will be taken by police in removing alcohol to prevent those intent on causing disorder and antisocial behaviour at our beaches.

"No alcohol decreases the chances of antisocial behaviour, making it a more enjoyable time for all the public and their families."

Inspector Ian McColl led the Safer Shores operation on a scorching day yesterday.

Insp McColl: "It was extremely busy, but we were really fortunate that there was no trouble like we have experienced in the past.

"Ayr was very family orientated whilst Troon saw more groups of younger people heading down.

"We had small outbursts but nothing of significant note, missing children across the beaches who were returned or traced by parents or police.

"We had the usual challenge of getting those who travelled by train up the road safely was faced however all went well with the support of ScotRail and BTP."
