Craft beer fan tries ale made from Yorkshire Puddings, and says it's 'OK'

A Yorkshire craft beer fan has tried the Yorkshire Pudding Beer brewed in North Yorkshire from actual Yorkshire puddings made in Doncaster. Yorkshire Pudding Beer is to feature on the final episode of Aldi's Next Big Thing on Channel 4, competing against five other products for a place on shelves in 970 UK Aldi stores, reports YorkshireLive.

Dave Himelfield tried the brew. He said: "I like ale. I like Yorkshire puddings. I'm not sure I'd want a beer to taste of one though. Well, good news. It doesn't.

"Yorkshire Pudding Beer, at 3.6%, smells and tastes more or less like any other craft session ale from the aroma to the finish. Smell-wise, it's a bit malty and faintly fruity with that musty water smell traditional British real ales give off.

"It pours a browned amber colour, which is coincidentally and appropriately autumnal, with slightly more fizz than you'd expect from an ale and 2cm of head. The initial taste is mildly sour with hints of citrus fruit and some malt.

"The mouthfeel is pleasantly average, a bit like carbonated water but that could be the beer's low ABV. The finish is hoppy and moderately bitter.

"Overall, it's OK, and if that sounds a bit underwhelming it's because it is. It's a competent session ale and there isn't really much more to say about it. Anybody expecting flavours of actual Yorkshire pudding is likely to be disappointed.

"Can I see it sitting comfortably on Aldi shelves though? Absolutely. It's an accessible and refreshing session ale with sufficient flavour to tempt craft beer noobs, but probably not enough character to tempt seasoned ale-heads."

You can order Yorkshire Pudding Beer from the brewery direct.
