KANNUR
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] here on Friday observed Red Flag Day in remembrance of Abu Master and Chathukutty, the first Communist martyrs in Kerala, who were shot dead by the British police at Jawahar Ghat in Thalassery.
The day was observed as part of the CPI(M) 23 rd Party Congress, which will kickstart in Kannur on April 6.
People came in large numbers to participate and they held up flags that connected Jawahar Ghat to AKG Square in Kannur, a distance of 23 km.
While the CPI(M) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan attended the event at Jawahar Ghat, the central committee members E.P. Jayarajan and M.V. Govindan were present at AKG Square.
Similarly, people formed a human chain by holding 150-metre-long flags at 53 important centres, which began from the Karivellur martyrs’ memorial to the Cherukalayi martyrs’ gate at Mahe Poozhithala.
