A Cowie dad fighting MND has finally taken to the skies for a special once-in-a-lifetime challenge.
Bryan Norris, 60, took on the zipline in North Wales at the weekend alongside a group of family and friends to raise money for research into the condition.
Builder Bryan was diagnosed with MND in November last year but defiantly vowed to take on the high-flying zipline – hailed the fastest in the world – which was initially bought as a 60th birthday present by wife Elaine.
The large contingent of family and friends were set to head down to Wales on February 19, but poor weather forced the event to be put on hold.
However, everything finally came together on Saturday for Bryan to take to the skies having raised more than £7,000 for the MND Scotland charity.
Elaine said: “It was all due to happen in February but the storms forced it to be cancelled and so we managed to set it up for this weekend and thankfully everyone was able to get time off to come down.
“In total, there were 23 of us that went down and 10 went on the zip line. Bryan just absolutely loved it.
“The atmosphere on the day was absolutely brilliant and it was great to finally get it ticked off. The folk at the place were amazing and people were finding out what we were doing and just stopping to give us money.
“We were all a bit deflated when it was cancelled first time around and actually Bryan ended up quite ill that weekend so it was possibly a bit of a blessing.
“It was actually quite emotional, everyone had their T-shirts on and knew they were doing it for Bryan – we were a bit worried that he wouldn’t be able to manage it, but he did it in style and we’re all just so proud of him.”
The whopping total has smashed through the family’s initial target of £1,000 – and it is expected that the total will continue to rise as more donations flood in.
“The support has been absolutely brilliant and the last count will be near the £8,000 mark we think”, Elaine added.
“There’s still quite a bit to come in and considering we were only looking to raise £1,000 for MND Scotland, it has just been amazing and everyone has just been so generous.”
