UK health authorities face a dilemma over which vaccines they should use to combat further waves of Covid-19.
Scientists and doctors acknowledge that they may have to choose between selecting jabs that are most effective - and ones that are likely to be widely available. Nonetheless, they are urging authorities to act fast to prepare for an autumn that could see Covid-19 cases again spreading across the UK, as figures revealed another dramatic jump in cases this week.
More than two million people across the UK were found to be infected for the week ending June 24, a rise of more than 30 per cent on the previous week. The Omicron BA4 and BA5 variants of the virus are expected to peak and continue into the autumn.
