Covid travel: Dubai entry requirements as UAE accepts British arrivals with new update

The travel and tourism industry has been hit hard since the covid pandemic started in 2020.

However, with the push for vaccines and now booster jabs, countries around the world are opening up their borders to sun-seeking Brits.

The rise of the omicron variant caused some world leaders of countries such as Morocco and France to put their foot on the brakes for UK arrivals but along with some requirements, Scots can enjoy a break away.

Dubai and the United Arab Emirates are open for British arrivals but, like most countries, travellers are required to follow the covid rules and regulations to be admitted entry.

Dubai is a popular choice for those seeking hot weather and a taste of the Middle East, with desert safaris for those wanting to experience the exotic sand dunes.

Holders of full British passports will be granted a free of charge visitor/tourist visa upon arrival in the UAE. It will be stamped as you pass through immigration and lasts for 30 days.

Entry requirements for Dubai

  • All arrivals aged 12 and over must show a negative PCR test taken no more than 48 hours before travel.
  • On arrival another PCR test needs to be taken.
  • Those who are fully vaccinated need to present a negative PCR test on arrival, on day four and on day eight but will not be required to quarantine.
  • Unvaccinated travellers from the UK will be required to have a COVID-19 PCR test on arrival, quarantine for 10 days and have a COVID-19 PCR test on day nine.

Travel rules and covid regulations can change often and frequently. Travellers are urged to check the requirements of the country you are departing.

You may need to take a particular type of COVID-19 test specified by your destination in order to depart the country.

PCR tests required must not be from the NHS — they must be private and not self administrated.

If the covid tests return positive while you're in the UAE, Gov.uk website explains: "Depending on your symptoms and your accommodation plans, you may be required to self-isolate in a government facility, a hospital, your hotel or privately arranged accommodation for at least 10 days.

"If you are transiting through the UAE to a country that requires a covid PCR test on arrival, then you must obtain a negative covid PCR test before travelling."

In some cases, you may have to provide proof of a 'green pass' to enter Abu Dhabi from within the UAE. More information on this requirement can be found on the Abu Dhabi Media Officer website here.

All visitors must have international health insurance before travelling.
