Covid-19 infection rates have fallen in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. Trafford now has the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, replacing Stockport.
The borough recorded a rate of 642.7 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 2, according to the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency. Meanwhile, the lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 396.8 cases per 100,000 people.
In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 516.3 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 677.1 cases per 100,000 people.
That means the infection rate is lower than the national average in all ten local authorities in Greater Manchester.
A total of 14,640 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 2. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 3,155 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 18 percent in the last week.
In the week ending April 2, a total of 42 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is four more than the week before.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 965,757 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There have been a total of 8,991 deaths.
Borough-by-borough breakdown
Rochdale is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 434.1 cases per 100,000 people.
There were 971 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 132 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 12 percent.
There were 1,881 positive tests over the last week in Stockport, which is 475 fewer than in the previous week.
The week-on-week trend in Stockport is down by 20 percent and the latest infection rate is 639.4 cases per 100,000 people.
Wigan recorded 1770 coronavirus cases, which is 378 fewer than in the previous seven days.
The latest infection rate in Wigan is 535.2 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 18 percent week-on-week.
Bury saw a total of 979 cases in the week ending April 2, which is 184 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 16 percent.
In Bury, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 513.4 cases per 100,000 people.
In Trafford, there were 1,527 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 2, which is 483 fewer than the previous seven days.
Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 24 percent.
The trend is down in Salford, where there were 1,401 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 2, which is 299 fewer than the previous seven days. That is down by 18 percent compared to the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Salford is 533.3 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
There was a fall of 21 percent in cases in Manchester over the week ending April 2, and the infection rate is now 465.9 cases per 100,000 population.
