Covid infections drop for 16 days in a row in Liverpool City Region

Liverpool City Region's local government areas have seen their positive Covid tests fall for a sixteenth day in a row.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, the Liverpool City Region (LCR) overall had 12,532 covid infections in the seven days ending January 21 - that's 3,237 fewer infections than the previous week.

That meant the LCR's week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 21%.

The decreases in positive Covid tests in each of the areas of the city region were: 23% in Knowsley; 26% in Liverpool; 12% in Halton; 22% in St Helens; 18% in Sefton; and 16% in Wirral.

Elsewhere, West Lancashire and Warrington had falls in positive tests in the week ending January 21. However, Cheshire West and Chester had an increase in infections - 4% in the week ending January 21. It is the seond day in a row that Cheshire West and Chester has seen an increase in positive tests.

England had a small rise drop in infections in the week ending January 21.

Liverpool

Liverpool's positive tests came to 3,501 cases in the week ending January 21, which is 1,249 fewer cases than the previous week.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure dropped by 26%.

The latest infection rate was 699.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Wirral

Wirral's positive tests came to 2,955 cases in the week ending January 21, which is 556 fewer cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 16%.

The latest infection rate was 911.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Halton

There were 1,302 positive tests over the last week - that's 185 fewer cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 12% in Halton in the week ending January 21.

The latest infection rate is 1,003.4 cases per 100,000 people.

St Helens

There was a total of 1,476 cases in the week ending January 21, which is 419 fewer cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in St Helens is 815.0 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure fell by 22%.

Knowsley

There was a total of 1,192 cases in the week ending January 21, which is 352 fewer cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 781.9 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure dropped by 23%.

Sefton

Sefton had a total of 2,106 cases in the week ending January 21, which is a 476 fewer cases than in the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 763.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases fell by 18% week on week.

Liverpool City Region

There were 12,532 positive tests over in the week ending January 21, which is 3,237 fewer cases than in the previous week.

This means the week-on-week percentage change fell by 21%. The latest infection rate is 735.99 cases per 100,000 people.

Warrington

There were 1,906 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 21, which is 241 fewer cases than the previous week.

The week-on-week percentage figure dropped by 11%. There was an infection rate of 910.23 per 100,000 people.

West Lancs

West Lancashire recorded 1,017 coronavirus cases in the week ending January 21, which is 121 fewer cases than in the previous seven days.

This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure dropped by 11%. The infection rate was 888.24 per 100,000 people.

Cheshire West and Chester

There were 3,607 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 21, which is 134 more cases than the previous week.

The latest infection rate is 1,049.09 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week-on-week percentage rise of 4% in cases.

England

In the week ending January 21, England recorded 561,330 coronavirus cases, which is 1,939 more cases than in the previous seven days.

There was a week-on-week percentage rise of 0.3% in cases nationally, and there was an infection rate of 992.62 per 100,000 people.
