The number of patients with Covid-19 in Scottish hospitals has jumped by 6 percent in the most recent week, new figures show. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) data further estimates 1 in 16 Scots have tested positive for coronavirus.
According to Public Health Scotland 's (PHS) latest Covid survey, there were on average 1,770 patients in hospital with a positive Covid-19 test in the week ending July 17 - a 6 per cent increase from the previous week. Despite this rise, the number of patients admitted to intensive care units has dropped, with 21 new admissions the week ending July 17, a decrease of two from the week ending July 10.
This comes as cases in Scotland rose for the sixth week in a row. The ONS latest Covid Infection Survey estimated that the number of people in Scotland testing positive for COVID-19 was 334,000, or 6 per cent of the population, a slight rise from 312,800 the previous week.
