GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat surpassed yet another milestone in its Covid-19 vaccination drive on Tuesday as the jab numbers touched the 10 crore mark. Chief minister Bhupendra Patel commended those involved in the vaccination programme for the achievement.
A government statement said that Gujarat is at the forefront in the country as far as per 10 lakh eligible population having been administered both the doses is concerned.
The Covid-19 vaccination programme was rolled out in the state on 16 January 2021. In little over a year, 10 crore doses have been administered in the state, the release added.
The release said that over the past one year, the vaccination programme has been taken up on a large scale with special vaccination drives held at schools and colleges. A dedicated effort is also underway to vaccinate people at their homes.
So far, 4.87 crore persons above 18 (98.8% of the eligible population) have been administered the first dose while 4.59 crore persons above 18 (95.7% of the eligible population) have been given both the doses.
Vaccination of those between the ages of 15 and 18 began from January 2022. Of the 35.50 lakh eligible persons in this age group, 28.44 lakh have been administered the first dose of the vaccine.
As many as 16.21 lakh persons have been give the precaution dose until Tuesday, the government said in the release.
