NEW DELHI: Keeping in mind the surge in Covid-19 cases, the health department may propose a penalty of at least Rs 500 for the violation of Covid-appropriate behaviour, including wearing of face masks in public places and maintaining social distancing, in the next meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
Sources said the health department had prepared a proposal for levying the fines after receiving recommendations from the chief district medical officers in a meeting earlier this week. “Everyone present in the meeting agreed that the biggest reason behind the uptick in the positivity rate and absolute number of fresh Covid cases is sudden dip in the number of people wearing masks in public,” said an official.
