Covid cases have plunged to the lowest level recorded since June last year, the latest figures have shown

There were 12,421 Covid cases recorded on April 29, according to the Government’s data dashboard.

That figure is the lowest level recorded since June 22 in 2021 when 11,625 were reported - although this may be influenced by the end of mass free testing.

Over the last week, there have been 105,331 cases, 80,294 less than the previous days.

In terms of deaths, the UK recorded 216 on April 29 as mortalities have continued to fall since the beginning of the week.

After rising to 651 earlier this month, there have been 1,560 across the last seven days, 396 less than the week before.

A further 1,260 patients were admitted to hospital on April 25, a small rise from the previous day when 1,169 were recorded.

According to the London Assembly’s data store, there were 1,278 cases reported on April 29.

There were 19 deaths in the capital within 28 days of a positive test.

In the week ending April 24, 12,712 cases were recorded at a rate of 141 per 100,000 people.

For the previous seven days, there were 154,179 cases at a rate of 273 per 100,000.

The latest R value between 0.7 and 0.9 means, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 7 and 9 other people.

A growth rate of between -6% and -3% means that the number of new infections is shrinking by between 6% and 3% every day.

It comes after figures from the ONS revealed the infections have fallen for the third week running in England.
