Sharon Claydon tests positive to start campaign

Newcastle MP Sharon Claydon is the latest Hunter federal election candidate to test positive for COVID-19.

Ms Claydon returned a positive PCR test on Monday night and is in isolation for at least the first seven days of the campaign.

Labor Hunter candidate Dan Repacholi, the Nationals' James Thomson, Nationals senate nominee Ross Cadell, Paterson MP Meryl Swanson and Shortland MP Pat Conroy have all tested positive this year.

The Hunter New England Health district recorded 2068 new positive tests in the 24 hours to 4pm Monday, the most of any health district in the state.

HNEH hospitals were treating 90 patients with COVID, up from 74 the previous day, including three in intensive care.

NSW recorded 15,334 new positive tests and 11 deaths, including one life lost on the Central Coast.

The state's hospitals were treating 1584 COVID patients, up 16 on the previous day and the highest count since February 14. Intensive care unit admissions were up from 62 to 70.
