Covid: 26 IIT-M students test positive; 44 fresh cases in Chennai

CHENNAI: The cluster tally at IIT-M rose to 171 on Thursday after 26 more students tested positive for the viral infection. Fresh cases across the state dropped marginally to 73 compared to 77 on Wednesday. After discharging 32 patients, the state had 488 active patients, an increase from 447 a day ago.

“The active cases in the state will continue to increase for some time because we are continuing to see more patients from IIT. The cumulative test positivity rate at IIT is around 2.6%. The health condition of all patients on campus is stable. The cases will continue to increase till we complete saturation tests. It will slow down after that because we are not seeing a major increase in fresh cases outside the cluster,” health secretary J Radhakrishnan said. “We also did not see new variants or sub-variants in the cluster,” he added,
