Covid-19 cases continue to rise as Irish health service struggles to cope

Covid-19 cases are continuing to rise as the health sector struggles with the strain the virus is piling onto crowded hospitals.

As of yesterday morning, there were 678 confirmed cases in hospitals – a rise of 11 from the previous day. The latest figures show 29 patients are receiving treatment for coronavirus in intensive care.

Just two weeks ago there were just 12 patients battling the virus in ICU. The rise in Covid-19 infections is coinciding with a spike in flu and similar respiratory illnesses to place a huge concern with overcrowding on the wards.
