PANAJI: Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday urged the Union government to cover 100% Ayurveda treatments under medical insurance so that Ayurveda reaches each and every household in the country.
Currently only a few Ayurveda procedures are covered by a few private medical insurance companies and in case all procedures are covered like other treatments then it will help the people, he said at Ayurved Parva function at Nagpur.
The chief minister said that the Union Ayush minister can take up this issue and cover all Ayurveda procedures under the Union government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, then other private medical insurance companies will follow and it will benefit the people.
He said that there is a need to have some criteria to identify which procedures can be covered under medical insurance and which doctors are entitled for the same.
“Being an Ayurveda doctor, it is my request to Union Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal to take up the issues of insurance claims with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India as it will help take Ayurveda to each and every household,” Sawant said.
