Former Coventry City under-23s head coach Luke Tisdale has rocketed into the bookmakers' odds to become the new manager of Notts County.
Tisdale's departure from the Sky Blues was confirmed today and he has immediately leapt into the list of favourites with Bet Victor to succeed Ian Burchnall who left to join Forest Green Rovers last week.
Tisdale had joined the Sky Blues on a full-time basis in August 2014, initially joining the academy at the Alan Higgs Centre as youth development phase coach.
He eventually moved to become Under 23s Head Coach at the start of the 2019/20 season. Confirming his departure, Coventry chief executive Dave Boddy said: We would like to thank Luke for his time at the Club and the hard work and dedication that he has shown to the Sky Blues over the years.
“Everyone at the Club wishes Luke the very best of luck for the future.”
Tisdale added: "I would like to thank all the players for their incredible effort this season, they have been a brilliant group to coach, and I would like to particularly thank the U23 and first-team staff for all the support they have given the programme this season.
"The Under-23s staff have really driven the team forward this season along with incredible support from the first team staff above us. It's been a brilliant seven years at Coventry City and I look forward to watching the whole football club succeed again next season."
In a statement released by Notts last week in the wake of Burchnall's exit, the board of directors confirmed they had already drawn up a list of candidates they were hoping to speak to about the job.
Previously, Kim Engstrom had been the clear favourite to take the position after having been priced at 4/6 with Bet Victor on Sunday. Mike Williamson, who is the manager of Gateshead, was second in the running and was priced at 5/1.
Engstrom has recently managed HB Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands, but has since left the club.
In the meantime, Notts have announced that defender Richard Brindley has signed a new two-year deal with the club and has become the first of four players to have been offered fresh terms to pen a new contract.
Brindley has been an excellent signing for Notts having arrived on a free transfer three years ago and has helped the team reach the play-offs in the National League for three successive seasons.
Brindley said: "People often ask me why I’m not playing in the EFL, but there aren’t many clubs who have what we’ve got. “Everything about the club is unique - the style of play, the fans, the history.
"I want to be in the EFL with this club. Nottingham has become my second home and I want to remain loyal. I hope we can push for first place next season, because the history we can make in doing so would be special.”
