A new hotel on the former site of The Yomiuri Shimbun's Chubu Branch Office in Nagoya was officially opened Tuesday by the major U.S. hotel chain Marriott International Inc., Sekisui House Ltd. and The Yomiuri Shimbun.
At the opening ceremony of Courtyard Nagoya, Karl Hudson, Marriott International's area vice president for Japan and Guam, said he would like to offer excellent hospitality. He was joined at the ribbon-cutting by Matthew Cenzer, the principal officer of the U.S. Consulate Nagoya, among others.
Located in central Nagoya, the 12-story hotel has 360 guest rooms, including 10 suites. It also has restaurants, a gym and banquet halls that can accommodate up to combined 500 people.
The Yomiuri Shimbun owns the land and the hotel building, Sekisui House has designed and built the structure, and Marriott International operates the hotel.
It is the first foreign-capital hotel to be constructed in Nagoya since Marriott Nagoya Associa opened in 2000.
"This is the former site of our Chubu Branch Office building where our company started publishing newspapers in the Tokai region. We've been able to attract a world-famous hotel chain and make it to the opening day," said Takashi Yamakoshi, the president of The Yomiuri Shimbun's Chubu Branch Office. "I hope this hotel will provide guests from home and abroad as well as locals a place of comfort and friendly exchange."
