After a dozen years starring for the Sky, point guard Courtney Vandersloot is ready for a new challenge.
The four-time All-Star announced on Tuesday her plans to move on to a new team, thanking the only WNBA organization she’s ever known for making the past 12 years “special.”
“My first time ever setting foot in Chicago was the day I landed for training camp my rookie year. Twelve years later, it became a place I call home … To the Sky organization who drafted the little guard from a mid-major and believed in me from the jump, I couldn’t have asked for anything better,” Vandersloot wrote. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have realized my dreams because of you.”
Vandersloot did not reveal where she might land next, only that she was looking forward to joining “a new team in a new city.”
Chicago selected Vandersloot out of Gonzaga with the No. 3 pick in the 2011 draft. She helped guide the franchise to its first championship in 2021.
Vandersloot, who turns 34 in February, has made the All-Star team in three of the past four seasons. She averaged 11.8 points and 6.5 assists per game last season, shooting 48.1% from the field.
