Couple turn home into 'ghost ship' to help family after double tragedy

A Bootle woman who has turned her home into a ghost ship for Halloween hopes to raise money for a grieving family.

Lorna Smith will open her Hawthorne Road home to the public on the big night to raise money for the Moore family. Karen Moore died recently and Shay Moore died at the beginning of the year.

Lorna said she will leave a donation bucket by the front door and hopes locals will give generously. She said: "We did the same last year and we had people queueing down the road past the pub. My partner Carly is close to the Moores and we wanted to do something for them. They have had such a tough time and we thought it would a nice gesture."

Lorna said that she was enthusiastic about Halloween. She added: "I just love it and we went with a ghost ship theme for this year. We even have an 'Octopus man' and some other surprises too."

Lorna said the event will be for one night only. She said: "This is exclusively for Halloween. I will be out at the gate from dark and we expect to let groups of six to eight in from around tea time. I am hoping for big numbers and we hope people give generously."
