A couple believe their CCTV may have captured the "ghost of a family member" trying to "walk their dog" from beyond the grave.
Dad-of-two Matthew Kane was lying in bed when his wife, Lauren, spotted the mysterious figure while scrolling through footage of their weekend on their motion-sensor camera.
The eerie clip shows a pale figure appear out of their old antiques cabinet and walk 'with purpose' alongside their Australian shepherd dog before disappearing into thin air on Sunday night (January 14).
The 35-year-old construction company manager admits a "look of terror" came over his face and the usually sceptical couple have been left wondering "what else is out there".
Even more creepy, the cabinet holds the ashes and urns of dead pets and relatives alongside antiques from all over the world — leaving Matthew to hope that it was a relative and nothing more sinister.
Matthew, from Nerriga, New South Wales, Australia, said: "The figure appears sort of effortlessly from an old cabinet that we've got, it seems like it just generates out of that cabinet.
"It has a perfectly round head and leaves a trail of light behind it. It walks like it's on a mission, like it wants to get somewhere. You can almost see the arms swinging."
He said that his wife had been looking over the camera footage when she suddenly turned to him and said "oh sh*t, look at this, do you know what this is?"
Describing the harrowing moment he saw the video for the first time, Matt said: "The look of terror that came over my face when she showed me what was going on in the room next to us. It just looked like a tall person walking our dog."
He described the cabinet as "pretty creepy" and said that he's lost his father and stepfather, both of whom are in the cabinet.
He added: "I've watched the video about 10,000 times because I've got to sleep in the room next to where it happened."
Matt says the dog didn't bark so they had no idea that the figure had appeared until checking back over their camera.
This made him think the figure could be someone they know.
Matt explained: "Because of how calm the dog was, in my own head I'm hoping it's a relative or family member.
"My father died in a car accident with my brother and step mother when I was 14. All his things are in that cabinet. It was 20 years ago.
"I've been asking him to visit for years, maybe he did. That could explain why the dog didn't bark?"
Matt said that other people have suggested the mysterious figure could just be light or the kids getting up, but he's not sure these explanations make sense as it "comes from nowhere".
Despite this, the dad-of-two is eager for someone to debunk the video for him with a 'logical' explanation.
He said: "We're just a bit confused about it. "I'm not really a believer in this sort of stuff, I've never had much to make me believe that sort of thing really exists."
He claimed that it couldn't have been outside lights or a pedestrian because they live in the middle of nowhere in the Australian bush and have black-out blinds.
He added: "Usually I'm sceptical, but I feel differently about this because I just can't explain it. It's there to see.
"My wife thinks the same. We want to believe it's a play on light or something, but we can't explain it."
The motion-camera was originally set up as an extra camera they had spare after using outdoor cameras to keep an eye on their farm animals at night.
After seeing the footage Matt said he put it on his personal social media page as well as a paranormal page and people started "going crazy".
One commenter said: "99% of what gets posted here is pareidolia or wishful thinking. This is the 1% that gave me legit goose bumps. Holy cow that is some catch."
Another said: "That is most definitely a spirit you can see the head, the shoulders, the body and the way it's walking like a human, no doubt about it."
Still sceptical, someone else said: "If you know photography you would know the light on in the closet on the right will distort the dark background. No ghost but a human and a dog walking into the hallway."
