Couple's wedding hits disaster due to storm - but their day ends up even more romantic

A couple had to get married by candlelight after Storm Eunice knocked out the power to their wedding venue.

Johanna Harrison-Oram put out a call to action on Saturday, Feb 19, saying that she was due to get married that same day and the storm had knocked out power to the church.

She desperately needed a generator but despite the tweet being shared far and wide, they were unable to source one and their ceremony was at risk.

But with everything organised, and the guests on their way, the pair decided to carry on and make their wedding happen no matter what, and in the process ended up with maybe the most romantic wedding photos of all time.

What do you think about the candle-lit wedding? Let us know in the comments...

Johanna initially tweeted: "Totally impossible request, but does anyone in Devon or Somerset have a generator available to power our wedding TODAY?

"Our wedding venue is without electricity, power, or water and 87 guests were sent to other hotels last night. Power not being restored until at least 6pm."

Johanna's message was retweeted over 2,000 times and people were keen to help, but later she posted an update to say that her search had been unsuccessful.

She wrote: "Overwhelmed by so many lovely comments and everyone who has responded to this tweet. Thank you.

"There was no power in the church either so we got married by candlelight. The wedding party worked their socks off to find us an alternative venue at pretty much no notice which also had no power but did have running water.

"We were surrounded by so many people that we love and everyone was so supportive. A generator was found but there were issues in getting it connected. We’re married now and that’s all that matters."

Johanna and her husband, Sam, were later interviewed by the BBC and Sam said their wedding day would make for a good 'gameshow'.

He said: "I was thinking maybe everybody should do it this way. Book the ceremony, then on the way there try and find somewhere to have it."

During the interview, Johanna explained the stress she dealt with on the day of the wedding, as for a while everything was up in the air.

She commented: "I think we knew the ceremony was going to go ahead and you know what, it was beautiful.

"We had my mum, bridesmaids, and flower arrangers by torchlight decorating the church.

"We had bridesmaids, groomsmen, and the wedding party running around passing mobile phones making it happen on Saturday morning, so I think by Saturday morning when I woke up I genuinely thought there was a possibility that we were going to have the ceremony.

"That was always going to be so wonderful but I did think we might have to turn people around and send them home.

"Everything we planned happened differently."
