Couple repulsed after learning previous homeowners had stuffed 'dirty dishes' in vents

A young couple who are currently in the process of renovating their new home were recently left repulsed after unearthing a pile of dirty dishes in the vents, an unappetising collection left there by the previous homeowners.

Junior and Kenzie, who recently purchased their home for £158,000 ($190,000), made the "creepy" discovery after gutting the carpet and lifting up their floorboards, having noticed "a terrible smell through the whole house.

They uncovered various bowls, glasses, and pieces of cutlery, none of which appear to have been washed before being stashed away and left to gather dust.

The dishes appear to be caked with an old, unknown food substance, which the couple grimly described as being "hard and crusty."

The pair, who go by the joint username @ourcheaphome, have been documenting their renovation journey via TikTok, and so naturally updated followers after discovering their "little present."

Flabbergasted by their find, they've admitted they "can’t even understand why this would be easier or make sense to anyone", although imaginative followers have had plenty of theories of their own.

One person suggested: "How big was the space down there? Could they’ve been feeding someone there? Sounds crazy but the world is crazy."

Junior and Kenzie dismissed this unsettling thought, replying, "The space was long and narrow so not large enough for someone to fit but still fairly large."

Another joked: "Their mum probably pulled into their driveway and they had to hide the dishes she told them to do."

Shedding some insight into the history of their home, and why such a thing could have happened, Junior and Kenzie went on to explain: "There was an elderly couple living here and they had grandkids that were addicts."

The new homeowners, who are aged 18 and 20, say they bought the property knowing full well it was going to be a "fixer-upper". However, being keen to buy rather than rent, they were happy to take on the challenge.

Despite still having some hurdles to cross, the pair say they're "excited" to see the house once it's all done. They've also made sure to chuck their surprise "present" in the bin.
