Couple help save 'beautiful' octopus from circling seagulls after rare sighting

A couple helped an octopus back into the sea after spotting the rare creature at Penrhos beach near Holyhead. NorthWalesLive reported octopus sightings on dry land are extremely rare and Jamie and Stacey McNeil initially thought their collie dog had sniffed out something less exotic.

However, worried it might not survive without help, Stacey, 34, lifted it beyond the shoreline, then to the water, to give it a fighting chance. She said: “It was our dog who first spotted it. We thought he might have found a tennis ball or something as he likes to sniff those out.

“It was a beautiful thing, a deep red-brown colour. It was trying to crawl across the sand back to the sea but was making little progress. Without help it didn't look as if he would survive. Had we left him, we felt he would have been doomed.”
