Couple feel 'ripped off' after spending £1,000 to stay in 'dingy' hotel room

A retired couple who spent their savings to go on their "dream holiday" to Southport found they were stuck in a dingy room "like prisoners."

John Robinson, 82 and his wife Sally enjoyed many lovely summers at the coastal town. The couple, from Burnley, said they had always wanted to return and stay at the Royal Clifton Hotel.

However the couple found that their bucket list trip ended up being "depressing." Their son, Kev Robinson, 43, said his parents had spent £1,000 on the trip.

John, who is described by his son as not being media savvy, booked his room over the phone. He was told he would have to pay around £125 a night for his sea view room for his stay in September 2022. But when the couple arrived he was told he then needed to pay an added £42 each night for the sea view, Lancs Live reports.

Olivia Attwood quits I'm A Celebrity as Loose Women confirm reason

Olivia Attwood is reported to have left the I’m A Celebrity.

The launch episode on Sunday night saw 10 celebrities enter the famous Australian jungle for the first time since 2019. However, just days after arriving it is believed Olivia Attwood has left the ITV show.

On today's episode of Loose Women it was revealed that Olivia had left I'm A Celebrity. Jane Moore said: "She's left as a precautionary measure and she won't be allowed back in."

City rallies behind Irene after fears she 'may not survive winter'

Work to transform an elderly Merseyside woman's house will start in less than two weeks after a huge outpouring of support and help.

Last week the ECHO highlighted the issues at the home of pensioner Irene, who has been living in a freezing and dilapidated house in Huyton. Her gas supply was isolated and Irene has been left with a small electric heater to provide warmth in her home, which also has holes in the walls, doors hanging off hinges and nothing on which to cook hot food.

Irene's situation was raised by James Anderson who runs the Depher Community Interest Company, which raises money to help fix problems in the homes of people who cannot afford to do it themselves. He urged people to donate to the cause and tradespeople and businesses to come forward with offers of practical help.
