A couple found themselves with a huge credit card bill after making a dinner blunder.
The tourist said he had chosen a fancy restaurant to dine at for his wife's birthday while on the island of Bali.
The husband ordered a bottle of wine costing £95 from the bar and settled down to what was a lovely meal.
It was only later on that he realised that the wine had actually cost him £1,120 - more than they'd paid for the whole trip from Australia to Indonesia.
The tourist took to Facebook to warn others about being similarly caught out.
"I wanted to share a classic ignorant tourist story and my miscalculations when it came to the exchange rate," he wrote.
"I think it was my third time to Bali and on this occasion we were celebrating my partner's birthday so I booked (a restaurant) for a special dinner.
"We usually don't drink wine when in Bali due to the cost and average wine on offer but this time I decided I would splash out on a bottle of wine given the occasion.
"Looking through the wine list I decided on a decent bottle of white wine which was $RP1700++.
"Definitely a bit more than I would even pay in Australia but it was a birthday celebration right?
"$170 isn't too bad so I said to the waiter, we will have that bottle please.
"The waiter paused and said, are you sure sir? I scoffed at him and said yup no worries (like how dare he think I'm not good for a $170 bottle of wine)."
The purchase was so lavish even the chef came out to greet the seemingly well-heeled diners.
"Anyway the wine was consumed along with a delicious dinner and at one point the chef came out to introduce himself, which I did think at the time was strange but I just assumed it's a nice restaurant and didn't think about it again," he continued.
"The bill arrived, I paid and we left."
The tourist realised something was wrong when he went to check his bank account the next day.
"The next morning I logged into internet banking and noticed a charge for $2050 from (the restaurant)!" he continued.
"My heart dropped into my stomach and I had a mini panic attack. After rummaging through my stuff I found the receipt and the wine was close to $1700!
"What I didn't realise was the prices on the menu was in 100s of thousands.
"That meal actually cost more than the entire holiday, after a few hours of processing what happened we had a good laugh about it and needless to say I'm not allowed to order anything off a menu without getting the OK from the other half!"
Another couple faced a similarly hefty bill while at a restaurant in Greece last month.
Jessica Yarnall, 31, and Adam Hagaun, 30, claim they were hit with a staggering 800 euro bill (approximately £710) for two drinks, four crab legs and a salad at a notorious Greek restaurant.
They believed cocktails to be 25 euros each when they ordered at DK Oyster bar in Mykonos.
After enjoying two mojitos, four crab legs and a Greek salad, they were handed a bill for a staggering 800 euros, they claim.
When they challenged the bill, they claim staff produced a 'shot glass' drink that they said was an example of the 25 euro mojito and informed them that their mojitos were different ones, at 100 euros per drink, the couple have said.
Hair stylist Jessica says she was left in disbelief at the shocking sum, but said staff insisted that they paid up so they settled the bill in cash and left.
It is not the first time the restaurant has made headlines, with another couple claiming they were charged £300 for two drinks and a snack when they visited.
