A County Durham hotel has announced the date it will reopen after an "extensive, top-down" refurbishment.
The Park Head Hotel and Restaurant in Bishop Auckland was purchased by regeneration charity The Auckland Project in May 2021 and its reopening is now just months away. The interior of the hotel, which has 38 en-suite bedrooms and an 80-cover restaurant and bar, will be open to the public from February 1 2023, with bookings for overnight stays and enquiries for functions and events being taken already.
As well as the interior transformation, there is also a newly-landscaped outdoor space which both hotel guests and Bishop Auckland residents are being invited to enjoy by the management. The Oak Room Restaurant and Bar will offer food made with local produce including fruit and vegetables grown in the Walled Garden of nearby Auckland Castle.

Andrew Hogg, general manager, said: "We are delighted to be able to announce the opening date for the newly refurbished Park Head Hotel and Restaurant. The hotel has been at the heart of the local community for many years, and we are excited to welcome guests from near and far to both the hotel and restaurant in the New Year."
Sarah Fortin Townsend, the design consultant who has been overseeing the refurbishment from the start, said: "While we want to provide visitors with quality accommodation, beautifully wholesome food and a warm welcome, making sure the Park Head continues to be an important place for local residents of Bishop Auckland has remained paramount throughout the project. It will be wonderful to see the Park Head come to life again in the new year and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to explore and enjoy everything it has to offer."
