A large bakery chain is to close nine branches. Cooplands has more than 200 branches across the country, making it the second largest chain after Greggs.
It has now announced nine of these will close. Recent figures showed more than 150,000 retail jobs were axed in 2022 alone. Lloyds Pharmacy has closed all its Saisnbury's branches across the Uk and Boots has announced plans to close dozens of its shops.
A Cooplands spokesman said : "Following an in-depth review of the business, we are making some changes to both our retail and bakery operations, to help better position the business for the long-term and sustainable growth.
"This has been done to ensure that our store estate and broader business are fully aligned with our 'modern bakery food-to-go retailer' strategy.'"
