For those who live close to county borders, picking a shire can sometimes be a bit of a problem. While many border towns fall neatly into one or the other, some are a little more blurred.
Long Eaton is an interesting case. While the popular market town comes under Derbyshire authority, those living there have Nottingham postcodes and 0115 landlines.
And with Nottinghamshire towns and villages, including Stapleford, Toton and Attenborough on its border, it's easy to see why some could feel more aligned to the eastern county.
What three words would you use to describe Nottinghamshire? Let us know
Now, local residents and businesses have weighed in on the debate - and it seems they're divided. Some living and working in the area were quick to claim it as Nottinghamshire.
Charlotte Whittaker, who owns Yum Yums, a sweet shop in High Street, said: "That's a hard one because sometimes I feel I'm just here. But I'd call it Nottinghamshire.
"Maybe because I just live more that way too, I'm originally from Leicestershire and we're not even that far from there either. I think as well, Long Eaton is more of a town-town.
"Like when people say Derbyshire, I think of more picturesque places. I think it's the postcode too that throws people off." One visitor to the Blue Bell pub in High Street, who now lives in Long Eaton, added: "Definitely Nottinghamshire.
"I'm from Nottinghamshire and I am a Nottingham Forest fan, but I now live here." However, their companion Edward Murfin, 74, who also lives in Long Eaton, said: "No it's Derbyshire.
"But I was born in Derbyshire you see so maybe that's why." Another resident, who did not wish to be named said: " It's Derbyshire.
"I prefer Derbyshire to Nottinghamshire anyway, but all the schools fall under Derbyshire, We go to Derbyshire for services. It would make things better if we had a Derbyshire post code because on addresses sometimes people will put 'Long Eaton, Nottingham' when it's not correct."
But some feel the town is a perfect split between the two. Dave Glancy, known locally as 'Pet shop Dave' who works at Empire Pet Supplies, added: "It's half and half.
"You get Forest and Derby supporters here. and we all get on well together. It's a nice town, everyone knows each other, I've been here for 12 years now."
