Counter-terror police now leading Ann Widdecombe murder investigation

  • Counter-terrorism police are now leading the investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe , who was found with serious injuries at her Haytor residence on Thursday.
  • A 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was initially arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday 11 July.
  • Following new information and evidence, the man in custody has been re-arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
  • Specialist officers from across the Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) network have been working alongside Devon and Cornwall Police since the murder investigation began.
  • Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) is now leading the dynamic and complex investigation, continuing to collaborate with local police to establish the full circumstances.
