Councillors delight as Lanarkshire road riddled with potholes is finally resurfaced

Councillors have praised the work carried out by the council’s road department after a street littered with potholes was resurfaced.

In recent weeks, it was confirmed that a section of Barons Road from it’s junction with Muirhouse Drive and near the entrance to the grounds of St Brendan’s Primary School would close for resurfacing work to take place on the weekend before Halloween.

This section of the road had been in a state of disrepair for some time with the presence of cracks and potholes on the road but its surface is now restored following the recent permanent repairs project.

SNP councillor Agnes Magowan visited Baron’s Road view the resurfacing works being carried out.

She told Lanarkshire Live : "I'm delighted with the very professional resurfacing of the road which was cracking up and causing huge puddles and ponding.

"I had previously been contacted by local residents about serious flooding outside their houses as the drains seemed to be blocked.

“They had difficulty exiting their houses because of it and were also concerned at the state of the road, which had big cracks and potholes.”

Susan Gierthy, chairwoman of the Monday Lunch Club at nearby St Brendan’s Primary, said the road had needed "resurfaced for years".

She added: "I am delighted the council have employed Amey to carry out a thorough job. I hope it will cure the flooding problem.”

Last year Scottish Conservatives’ councillor, Nathan Wilson, made "strong and repeated" representations to the council on the importance of repairing damaged surfaces in the local area - he says he welcomes the "long overdue repairs".

However, he said it was "important that other parts of the local road network also undergo resurfacing works in future," pointing to Muirhouse as a "priority".
