Urgent repair work has been ruled out at the site of a derelict church hall which dramatically collapsed into rubble.
The back end of St Oswalds Parish Club, next to the church on St Oswalds Road, Old Swan, crumbled at 6.11pm on Wednesday, March 28, sparking a huge response from police, ambulance, and fire and rescue services. They remained at the scene for two hours while crews with sniffer dogs searched the wreckage, finding no casualties.
Mill Lane was cordoned off at the junction of Edge Lane, and one lane of St Oswald Street was also closed.

An investigation of the site, by Liverpool City Council, took place on Wednesday night, and it was determined that it posed "no immediate threat to public safety".
A Liverpool City Council spokesman said: "Officers from the building control team attended the site yesterday evening after being informed of the collapse. No further action is necessary at this time, as there is no immediate threat posed to public safety."
The Parish Club dates back to 1845, and was formerly a Wesleyan Methodist chapel. It was purchased by St Oswalds Church in 1866, and was used as a meeting place for the Catholic Young Men’s Society until 1966, when it became the Parish Club.
The council granted planning permission for the derelict building to be converted into a block of flats comprising three three-bedroom apartments and two one-bedrooms in May 2020. Ongoing development at the site was funded by Formby-based property developers, District and County Investment.
The developers refused to comment on the collapse, however, the Council spokesman said: "The Council is meeting the developer to understand what their plan of action is in light of Wednesday’s incident."
