Sefton Council is planning to spend nearly £1.5m on The Strand shopping centre in Bootle over the next few years.
The bulk of that money, nearly £1m, will be spent during 2023/24 as Sefton Council enacts its plan for transforming the shopping centre.
According to a report produced ahead of a budget meeting set to take place tomorrow night, February 7, nearly £680k will be spent on “Strand repurposing” with a further £375k to be spent on ‘Strand business plan.’

In 2024/5 just £75k is earmarked for the business plan with nearly £300k in 2025/26.
Documents also revealed the total loss for the shopping centre in 2022/3 is set to be half a million pounds with a further £300k loss projected for 2023/24.
The biggest capital expenses relate to economic growth and development, with by far the largest listed in the report being the Marine Lake Events Centre. Over £13m earmarked for this year, nearly £38m for 2024/5 and over £14m for the following year.
The report also notes over £1.8m to be spent on Southport’s enterprise arcade over the next two years, over £2.3m on the ‘transformations de Southport’ and £3m on urgent works at the Southport pier.
£836k is set aside for a strategic site acquisition in Ainsdale, with just over £1m allocated for a brownfield fund for housing development.
The report will be discussed at the borough’s overview and scrutiny committee tomorrow, which will also look at budget-saving options – before the reports go to cabinet for approval later in the week and then on to full council in March.
