Council responds after confusion over 'mystery development' near former pub site

Residents have expressed their confusion over a "mystery development" in Page Moss.

The Farmers Arms pub was situated on Liverpool Road but has since been closed and demolished. But with trucks coming and going from the site during recent days, many people have been wondering what will be there in its place.

Many people have taken to social media to ask what is happening at the once popular site as many suggested there could be a garage on the way due to "large tankers" seen parking there. But Page Moss resident John Carine told the ECHO no public consultation had been had, nor was there any evidence of a planning application via the Knowsley Council website.

Others suggested there could be the erection of apartments while some said they "hope it isn't a garage" due to increasing traffic concerns. However, Knowsley Council confirmed no planning application for the old Farmers Arms site has been received.

Instead, there is a simple explanation. A Knowsley Council spokesperson added: "The Council has not received any planning application relating to the old Farmers Arms site on Liverpool Road. As with any application, if one is received, the Council would write to affected neighbours.

"Officers have visited the site this morning and there is no construction activity, but works appear to have started on the neighbouring site which has planning permission for apartments and a nursing home. There are a number of vehicles parked on the former Farmers Arms site and the landowner has confirmed that they are parked there whilst they are developing another site. The Council will continue to monitor this."
