Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has advised of disruption to be caused this week due to strike action being taken by its employees,
Trade union Unite is coordinating the strike, which will see 100 employees of the council taking action over a pay dispute.
The council said in a statement the extent of the disruption will not be fully known until Monday 21 March, with the strike set to last until Sunday 27 March.

“The trade union, Unite, which represents around 100 employees of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has served notice on the Council that some of its members will be taking strike action from Monday 21 March 2022 until Sunday 27 March 2022 (inclusive) citing a trade dispute over pay for 2021/22,” the council said.
“While the Council will endeavor to continue service provision as far as is possible, it is likely that the planned strike action will impact service provision.
“The extent of disruption is unlikely to be known until Monday 21 March and residents are advised to follow the Council’s communications channels where updated messages about service disruption will be posted.
“Anyone planning to attend any of our facilities next week is asked to check with the venue in advance.”
Unite said the strike action was necessary after its members at all even local councils rejected a pay offer from local government employers.
“Council workers, education workers and Housing Executive workers in Northern Ireland have watched their pay stagnate over the last decade meaning real terms falls in their standards of living of 11 percent over the period and this is set to get worse,” the union said.
“The NJC pay offer of a bare 1.75 percent increase is actually a real terms pay cut of more than seven percent set against a 1.25 percent hike in national insurance and surging inflation (currently 7.8 percent).”
