Could you walk into a grocery store in 2026 with $75 and buy enough food to feed two adults breakfast, lunch, and dinner for an entire week?
It’s a much tougher challenge than it sounds. The latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data show grocery prices were 2.7% higher in July 2026 than a year earlier, with fruits and vegetables up 5.1%. Meanwhile, USDA’s own estimates suggest most two-adult households would need considerably more than $75 a week to follow its Thrifty Food Plan.
