Could the Browns target safety Julian Love in free agency next month?

Since Andrew Berry and Kevin Stefanski arrived in Cleveland the Browns have lacked a true free safety. This has limited what the defense can do in coverage without having a player that can consistently play deep coverage over the top. Grant Delpit had a great end to last season but still is more of a front-facing box safety.

If the team turns to free agency to fix this issue a cheaper name to consider is the Giants Julian Love. Love is coming off of arguably his best season in the pros posting a 71.5 coverage grade from PFF. The former fourth-round pick was reliable as a tackler as well with 80 solo tackles, 24 assists, and only six missed tackles on the season.

Signing Love wouldn’t be a major signing but it also wouldn’t break the bank and would provide an upgrade without using a ton of cap space. If he is looking for a short-term prove-it deal to put back-to-back good seasons together the Browns should jump on that. He isn’t a superstar but is the pure deep coverage-free safety the team is missing.
