A "Pokémon" fan has wondered how transportation could work in "Pokémon Winds and Waves." The conversation began with a Reddit post showing different Pokémon carrying Flying Taxis from several regions.
The fan-made concept features three Noctowl carrying a Kitakami Flying Taxi, and four Squawkabilly carrying the Paldean version. Two Skarmory are shown carrying a Blueberry Flying Taxi, and a Corviknight handles the Galar model.
Flying Taxis Could Return in 'Pokémon Winds and Waves'
Flying Taxis have become a familiar feature in recent "Pokémon" games. They also show how transportation can differ between regions.
One explanation discussed by fans is local Pokémon availability. Corviknight may appear to be an obvious choice because of its strength and size. However, not every region has access to Rookidee or Corviknight.
That could explain the different choices. Kitakami, for example, could use Noctowl because Hoothoot are more commonly associated with the area. Blueberry Academy could use Skarmory because the Pokémon is available there.
Paldea has another possible reason to avoid Corviknight. Tinkaton is famously known for targeting Corviknight and using its feathers. Fans therefore suggested Squawkabilly as a more suitable local alternative.
Fans Also Want Water Taxis
The Reddit discussion soon expanded beyond flying transportation. Some fans suggested that Pokémon Winds and Waves could introduce a dedicated water taxi system.
Wailmer and Wailord were among the Pokémon mentioned for the role. Their large size would make them natural candidates for carrying passengers across bodies of water.
The idea also reminded some fans of Pokémon ROM hacks. Certain fan-made games have experimented with using Wailmer for Surf-related travel.
A water taxi system could make particular sense if "Pokémon Winds and Waves" features a region with extensive coastlines, islands, or waterways. It could also give aquatic Pokémon a more visible role in regional transportation.
Should Players Ride Their Own Pokémon?
Not every fan wants transportation to depend on designated taxi Pokémon. Some would prefer a system that lets players use their own Pokémon.
One suggestion involves allowing suitable Flying-type Pokémon in the player's party or Boxes to provide fast travel. This approach could make exploration feel more personal.
It would also bring back some of the feeling associated with older "Pokémon" games. However, traditional HM-based travel had its own problems.
Players often had to dedicate Pokémon moves to abilities such as Fly and Surf. This could limit team-building options.
Modern Pokémon games have largely separated travel abilities from regular moves. That gives players more freedom when building their teams.
Could Pokémon Soaring Make a Return?
Another possibility raised by fans is a return to Soaring. The feature appeared in "Pokémon Omega Ruby" and "Alpha Sapphire."
Soaring allowed players to travel through the sky while riding Pokémon. It offered a more interactive alternative to simply selecting a fast-travel destination.
Fans could see a similar system working in a future "Pokémon" game. Others have suggested Pokémon such as Tropius and Pelipper as possible transportation partners.
For now, these ideas remain fan speculation. There is no confirmed Flying Taxi or water taxi system for "Pokémon Winds and Waves," but it's a healthy indication that plenty of ideas are still waiting to be explored in the game.
